Vessel: Colvic Countess 35
Departure Port: Tobermory, Scotland, UK
Arrival: Plymouth, Devon, UK
Total Distance 450 Nautical Miles
Scotland, in my opinion has some of the best sailing that the UK has to offer. It was a shame to be leaving such a lovely place so soon after arriving but the tide waits for no one!
Our departure had to be timed perfectly to allow for favourable tides through the Sound of Luing, passing the infamous Fladda lightouse and shortly after steering well clear of the Corryvreckan whirlpool south of Scarbra - all of which had to be done in daylight to ensure the safety of our crew, the vessel and the environment.
The first evening turned magical after a stunning sunset, we were treated to the brightest Northern Lights I’ve ever seen a truly unforgettable display.
Once abeam of Kintyre, it was a 320 nautical mile leg to Lands End, before setting a Easterly course towards the Lizard and finally a NE'ly course into Plymouth.

Sailed into the Sound of Luing. Ben successfully caught a fish!

Tom attempting to ID the catch!

Enjoyable sailing shared with the dolphins with the Irish coast in the distance.
